Starting April, 2008, Madison Project will be regularly posting blogs on the races where its candidates are involved. The Project will do its best to post up-to-date poll numbers for the races, breaking news, insights, and press releases so that Madison members can track how the endorsed candidates are doing in their respective races.

I heard from good sources yesterday that one of Congressman Broun’s primary challengers, State Senator Nancy Schaefer, has dropped out of the race. A conservative with great credentials, Schaefer caused more than a few people to wonder why she was even considering challenging Broun-in one sense, they were the same type of candidate.
Instead of worrying about Schaefer splitting the conservative vote, Broun can now square off with State Representative Barry Fleming heading into the July primary.

The good news here is that it is a dead heat, and I am very impressed that Bob did one million in thee first quarter. That is superb.

Steve Pearce recently beat Heather Wilson at the GOP convention. I did think it was a bit humorous that Wilson claimed to be against abortion and a common sense conservative. Her American Conservative Union rating in 2006 was a 67%, while Pearce’s was a 92%: slight difference in words and deeds there for Wilson. BTW, Udall, the Democrat candidate, has a 4% lifetime rating from the ACU.

The Rasmussen poll from the middle of March shows the Colorado race in a virtual dead-heat, with Udall up 3 pts. over Schaffer with a 4.5% margin for error. I think this race will be closer than expected, and McCain’s appeal to independents will likely help Schaffer this fall.
